Since 1993, Jennifer has covered hundreds of stories - from raging fires to county fairs to everything in between. She currently anchors 3 News at 5, 6 and 10. Get Involved With ECCC!
President’s Message
by Hope Wheeler
It has been my philosophy over the years that in order to maximize the benefits of being a member of an organization you have to get involved. There are so many ways to do just that in ECCC. We had a very full agenda at our March board meeting because we have so many different events being planned. I thought I would take a moment this month to point out different ways to get involved.
Regularly attend the monthly meetings
They are only once a month on the third Thursday. Put these dates on your calendar now and schedule around them. Why miss the chance to network with 50 to 70 peers? And have one of the best lunches in town. Our Program Chair, Ellen Schmidt, is working diligently to line up speakers for our meetings. She is trying to diversify the topics to provide meetings of interest to all of the unique women in our Club.
Bring a guest
The larger the group at the monthly meetings, the more opportunities we have to meet new leaders in the community and the more beneficial ECCC is to all of us. Every one of us knows at least one woman that meets the criteria for ECCC membership but is not a member. March is the ideal month to think about that since you can bring one member-eligible guest to the meeting at no charge. Feel free to bring more than one member-eligible guest, they just won’t be free.
Outreach
These are events planned specifically to attract new members and introduce new members and can range from social type events to business forums. Andra Lee, the Outreach Chair, has planned an event for April 2nd that is a social event, but is also an opportunity for us all to invite a potential member. This is an etiquette dinner and should be both fun and educational……and there will be wine! Join us for outreach events and help us grow the Club.
Social events
Kudos to Kathy Reeves, Social and Networking Chair, for a wonderful social event this month with the Stadium Tour. This was quite the success with around 50 members in attendance. Get involved by joining us for generally smaller and more casual get-togethers, just because….. Several more ideas are on the horizon including 88 Broadway and a golf outing. And there is always the bus trip that Jeanette Beck, Vice President, is planning. Stay tuned.
Join a committee
Interested in helping with any of the above? Email a board member and ask if they could use help on their committee.
Board positions
Inquire of the current board members about their board positions to find out what they are all about. If interested in one, you may try being on the committee first. Then submit your name to the nominating committee when their search begins each year (the vice president is always the chairperson of this committee). We are lucky to have a lot of members interested in participating so submit your name again if you don’t get the opportunity the first time you inquire.
Hopefully you have seen something here that peaks your interest. Lets all make a pact to help grow ECCC and make it even better than ever. If we work together and “get involved” it will only help promote executive women in our community, including yourself!

Sign Up for Executive Etiquette Dinner
Thursday, April 2nd 6-8:30 p.m.
by Andra Lee
Success in your professional career can be contingent on many things, and one crucial factor can definitely be table manners. Have you been thinking you need to brush up on your business and social dinner etiquette skills for that next formal dinner party or business interview process? A local etiquette expert and WCIA monthly segment host for ‘Oh Behave’, Susan Feuille, Ed.M., RN, will be assisting ECCC members to learn the ‘visible signs of our table manners’ at a four course dinner at Hawthorn Suites, Thursday evening, April 2nd. Susan promises that after the etiquette training you’ll feel comfortable dining anywhere, even the White House, should you be invited to dine with the Obamas!
The dinner starts with a social with cash bar at 6pm, then dinner will begin promptly at 6:30pm. Wine will be served. Please sign up and join us for an ‘Executive Etiquette Evening’ on Thursday April 2nd at Hawthorn Suites, 101 Trade Centre Drive, Champaign (Neil Street).
Sign-up is on the ECCC website.
