Description
You are invited to join the Executive Club members’ social and family movie time at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium. It is featured with a short talk on Searching for Alien Worlds by Dr. Tony Wong, Associate Professor Astronomy Department, University of Illinois.
Finding a planet orbiting another star is not an easy task! Using some simple demonstrations we will learn how astronomers use changes in motion or brightness of a star to indirectly sense the presence of a planet.
Dr. Tony Wong completed his bachelor's degree in physics and astronomy & astrophysics at Harvard and his Ph.D. in astrophysics at UC Berkeley, and conducted postdoctoral research in Australia before joining the Illinois faculty in 2006.
The social time starts at 6:10 pm Sep 30. Dr. Wong’s talk will start at 6:30 pm. Light snack and water will be provided.
The Movie: One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure will start at 7 pm. Explore the night sky with our friends from Sesame Street. Join Big Bird, Elmo, and Hu Hu Zhu as they take an imaginary trip to the Moon. See how the Moon is different from the Earth and learn how to find the Big Dipper and North Star from your backyard. This interactive show for young children comes to us through a generous grant from the PNC Foundation.
Group tickets are $4 per person including adults, students, seniors and kids. Please register online. Looking forward to seeing you, your family and your friends there!
