Title: C-U Schools Foundation, Supporting Our Teachers and Students Through Crisis

Description:   Kelly Hill serves as Executive Director of the CU Schools Foundation.  Normally, this time of year Kelly and her board would be surprising Champaign and Urbana teachers with $70,000 in grant money.   These grants have helped stimulate student interest in STEAM, helped high schoolers prepare for job interviews, helped deepen understanding of locally grown food through school gardens, and provided access to hands on learning through field trips, and problem based activities! However, since the COVID "pivot" CUSF has been providing funds to help students and teachers manage the realities of remote learning. Most of all, CUSF is listening to what is needed in each district and trying to provide opportunities and experiences that inspire educators and motivate students for success.

Kelly is going to share an in-depth look at the struggles teachers and students are facing, and how this crisis in education is impacting our community.  You'll also hear a few ideas on how you can help make a difference in these unprecedented times!

About the Speaker:
A resident of Champaign Urbana for over 25 years, Kelly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, and the University of Nebraska. Her previous leadership experience as a collegiate basketball coach, and most recently at Girl Scouts and Habitat for Humanity helped prepare her for the non-profit work in leading the CU Schools Foundation. She believes high quality public education depends on community investment in our teachers–and engagement with our students who will lead in the future. She is proud to lead the organization that offers the community an opportunity to provide resources directly to teachers and students striving for excellence.
