Title:  A Summer Musical Performance Preview

Description:
Let's celebrate summer and have a little fun.
At this month's lunch, we will be serenaded by two community performance groups.
First, Champaign-Urbana Theater Company (CUTC) will showcase some numbers from their upcoming production of SHREK: THE MUSICAL.
Then we will be introduced to the duet of Jason Finkelman (percussion) and Saori Kataoka (trumpet) of Kuroshio, an "ever-evolving ensemble of improvising artists of Asian descent who explore and contemplate diasporic histories through multilayered channels of sound and performance."

About the Performers:

The Champaign Park District presents a CUTC & J. Barry Howell production of SHREK: THE MUSICAL, THU, AUG 4 - SUN, AUG 7, 2022

Everyone's favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar-winning, smash hit film! Directed by Whitney Havice, Music Direction by Elizabeth Martin and Kevin Zhou, Choreography by Aliah Teclaw and Maggie Kinnamon. Tickets available here.

Jason Finkelman combines laptop electronics and acoustic instrumentation to create a distinct ambient, avant-world sound. A specialist on the single string musical bow berimbau, Finkelman is a Philadelphia-born percussionist who performs on African and Brazilian instruments handcrafted by Adimu Kuumba. At the University of Illinois, Finkelman directs Global Arts Performance Initiatives at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and leads Improvisers Exchange, a performance ensemble of the School of Music.

Learn more about Jason's upcoming performance at Krannert Uncorked here.

Saori Kataoka is an award-winning performer from Tokushima, Japan committed to exploring a broad spectrum of trumpet performance spanning classical repertoire, jazz traditions, expansive new music and improvisation, and is the first brass player to appear as a Krannert Center Debut Artist (2020). She holds a Master of Music in trumpet performance from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts with a Certificate in Jazz Music from Campbellsville University (Kentucky).
