Title:  Motivation at Work, Self-Determination and Smart Goal Setting

Introduction:

Why professional development? As we move through our careers, change jobs, and potentially pivot focus, it's beneficial to continue educating ourselves and practicing new skills to stay updated on current topics, programs, and methods. In doing so, we improve our abilities, teams, and community.

Topics:

Motivation at Work - We will start with an activity to self-reflect on our current status of jobs and careers. This is a great opportunity to assess how we truly feel about our career paths we are on and what our personal motivators for having our jobs are. Doing so will help us relate to those around us as we share our thoughts with peers.

Self-Determination Theory - This will be a small debrief in which we review the questions that were used in the activity mentioned above and realize we worked through Self-Determination Theory. This method may be utilized at any time to reflect and touch base on what drives our decisions and motivations at work (or in personal life, we will look at the transferability of the skills as well).

S.M.A.R.T. Goals - Finally, I plan to do a quick review in how to create and maintain S.M.A.R.T. goals to help us achieve some of the ones we determined for ourselves for this year OR to help us take action if after Self-Determination activity they find they would like to change roles/careers. This will wrap-up with networking in sharing (as they feel comfortable) some of their action plans. I will also take this time to give the handout which members can use as a resource or reminder for future self-reflection.
